What’s inside the pattern
Bake Time is an 8-page crochet quiet book centered around a baking theme. The different pages have interactive pieces for children to play with, including a memory game and a page for learning about counting.
The bright colors and many different options for playing make this a great gift which can last as a wonderful childhood memory.
There are removable pieces, so adult supervision is needed for younger children.
The pages
The cover — The cover page depicts a lovely, colorful birthday cake with dripping frosting. The book can be fastened off with a velcro strap.
Piece of cake! — A scalloped pie sits center-page. Allowing fine motor skills practice and imaginative play by placing and removing the toppings: a strawberry, a dollop of whipped cream, a lemon slice, and a small cherry. Everything velcros on and lifts right off.
Stand Mixer — The red stand mixer has a bowl and a moving whisk. Three baskets hold three eggs which can be placed in the bowl and whisked. The start to every good cake!
Cupcake Shop — Each cupcake has its own color-coordinated liner. Mix and match the colors or place them all in their place. Great for learning about colors!
Chocolate Chip Cookie — A big cookie and chocolate chips which can be pulled in different directions. Next to it: a milk bottle in its own little pocket. Simple, satisfying.
5-tier Cake — Five numbered cake tiers in descending size. Discover the colorful circles beneath the numbers. Counting, colors, and fine motor in one.
Cookie Dough — Roll the dough with the roller included in the instructions and create different shapes of cookies. Each cookie attaches with a velcro and has its location marked with a dotted line. Great for practicing shapes.
Memory Game Cookies — A memory game dressed up as cookies! Each cookie can be flipped over to reveal a different shape and color. Memorize their locations to match all 6 pairs.

A sneak peek
How hard is it, really?
The straightforward parts
- Page panels are worked through almost entirely with single crochet — easy rows you can crochet on autopilot, with the curved shaping in just the last few rows
- Color changes happen at row/round boundaries, so there's no mid-row yarn juggling
- Many techniques are reused between the pages (like the net for the eggs and the milk) — so it gets easier and more familiar as you go
- Velcro placement and embroidery spots are called out step by step, so there's no guessing where a piece attaches
The parts that take patience
- The cover's frosting is a sequence of chains of different lengths that need to be shaped and hand-sewn along the cake edge
- The cookie dough page uses irregular shaping to build an organic blob outline — the least "follow the grid" page in the book
- The 5-tier cake means building, numbering, and attaching separate latches for 5 different sized tiers — which takes some sewing and patience
- Putting the book together means crocheting along the edges of the spine while the book is on its side - might be a bit fiddly

- 8 pages sounds like a lot — how do I know if I'm ready for it?
- If you've crocheted before and finished a project that took more than a few sessions (or want to try), you have what it takes. The pages build on each other — once you've made the first one or two, the rhythm clicks and the rest feel more manageable.
- Will my child actually play with all of it, or lose interest after one page?
- The variety is the point — each page is a completely different activity, so there's always something new to come back to. Some kids gravitate toward the memory game, others love placing the toppings or mixing the eggs. There's something here for everyone - a toy built to last.
- Does the book grow with the child, or will they outgrow it quickly?
- It grows well. The simpler pages — placing cake toppings, putting eggs in the bowl — work for the younger kids, while the numbered cake tiers, the cookie shapes, and the memory game stay engaging for the older ones. Children can use it differently at different ages.
- Can I make just some of the pages and skip others?
- Yes — each page is written as a standalone section, so you can pick and choose based on what appeals to you or how much time you have. A smaller version of the book is completely valid.
- What do I get with my purchase?
- An instant-download PDF with written instructions for every element and how to put the book together, over 300 step-by-step images, and a full materials list. No subscription, no video required — one purchase, yours to keep.
